Burning Tips and Safety

|
 |
-
Place
your candle on protected, heat-resistant surface, and away from
anything flammable.
-
Trim
the wick to one-quarter inch before lighting. Although our palm
wax candles have all-natural “self-trimming wicks” the wick
should be trimmed when too much of the burned wick remains. Be
sure to remove any wick debris, matches, or combustible material
from the wax pool. When extinguishing wicks, push the wick into
the melted wax – disposable knives are great for this - to
eliminate the after-burn smoke.
As your candle burns, the size of the wick flame can be
controlled by either trimming the wick for a reduced flame, or
carefully removing some of the melted wax to increase the wick
flame.
-
Ideally,
burn your candle until the pool of wax extends to the edge of
the jar, which varies depending on the size of the jar and the
room conditions (for 16 oz. typically 1 to 1½ hours). Your
candle has a "memory" and will not burn past the first
burn line on subsequent uses.
Therefore, if it is important to you for your candle to
burn to the edge, it must do so on the first burn.
-
Waxes
burn differently. Soy and other waxes are consumed or completely
melted quickly when burning. However, palm wax is a much harder
wax and lasts longer than softer waxes. A palm wax candle
requires a hotter wick to enable burning to the edge. You may
observe after burning 15 or more hours (or if burning for more
than 3 hours at a time) that the previously melted wax becomes
darker—this is due to the wax being scorched. This does not
affect the scent throw or the healthy benefits of your palm wax
candle…generally a softer wax burns away the scorched wax, but
the palm wax can be burned numerous times before it is consumed.
-
Never
leave a burning candle unattended. Keep burning candles within
sight at all times.
-
Keep
candles out of reach of children and pets.
-
Always
light candles in draft-free areas on a level surface. If a draft
cannot be avoided, or if candle is burning unevenly, turn the
candle 180 degrees every hour.
-
Discontinue
use when your candle burns within one inch of the bottom.
-
To
guard your candle against fading, avoid placing in direct
sunlight.

| Palm wax is made from palm oil,
which is obtained by steaming and pressing palm fruit.
The palm oil tree is very resilient, with a higher
yield, and is a renewable resource.
No chemical treatments or artificial fertilizers
are required for cultivation of the palm fruit.
Palm wax has an attractive unique crystalline
structure.
Higher fragrance load than other waxes can be used
in palm wax candles.
Soot emissions are minimized because of the bright
flame.
Wicks in Word Candles palm wax candles are made of
top grade cotton, with tiny paper cores, which prevents the wick
from collapsing into the liquid palm wax. Most of our jars have
three wicks for a more even burn. |
